Tanganyika Catchment Reforestation and Education
Established in 1994, TACARE is a community-centered conservation and development program that partners with communities to create sustainable environments while calling attention to conservation. This program encourages the reforestation of Tanganyika (now called Tanzania). The Jane Goodall Institute’s TACARE has been successful because it is driven and embraced by local communities. It has also been recognized by the US Agency for International Development for their efforts. Recently, TACARE has been replicated in central and western parts of Africa.
